Lucy Elizabeth Kemp-Welch (20 June – 27 November ) was a British painter and teacher who specialized in painting working horses. She is best known for the paintings of horses in military service she produced during World War One and for her illustrations to the edition of Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.

Had a solo show at Arlington Gallery, Tate Gallery, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and other public collections hold Kemp-Welch’s pictures, which were latterly extensively sold by David Messum.This Gallery contained 28 pictures by Lucy Kemp- Welch, one by her sister, Edith, and several by Marguerite Frobisher, who placed the care of these artworks in.

[2] [3] Kemp-Welch had been taught by Hubert von Herkomer, [4] and in took over the running of his art school, renaming it the Bushey School of Painting, and later the Kemp-Welch School of Animal Painting. Kemp-Welch was the younger son of Brian Charles Durant Kemp-Welch, an executive and then managing director of the Schweppes company where his own father had been chairman and managing director. He had an older twin brother, Peter Wellesbourne, and a sister who was just a year older, Elizabeth, who won later fame under her married name of Betty.
